On 11 November 2018, 100 years since Armistice, bells will ring out in unison from churches and cathedrals in villages, towns and cities across the country.
Haverhill Royal British Legion have been working with our local Town Council, and other local partners, to construct a giant poppy in St Mary’s churchyard located in our local the town centre. Specialized Print have sponsored the sign.
The giant poppy was unveiled on Sat 27th October as part of the Haverhill Armistice 100 commemorations and will remain in place for 4 weeks. All of our local school children have written a name on each of the 144 large RBL poppies – one for each serviceman named on Haverhill War Memorial. Life stories of almost all the men are provided by the Haverhill family history Group. 13 are buried in Haverhill Cemetery and the schoolchildren will visit their graves on 8th Nov to lay a poppy cross on each and afterwards remember all 144 men at the memorial.
The servicemen can be viewed, along with their life stories or tributes, at: suffolkfhs.co.uk/index.php/haverhillroh/table
